A Typical Day at Echo Hill Camp

​Campers choose as many as five activities throughout a typical day – three in the morning and two in the afternoon. Echo Hill Camp operates on the free-choice theory, so campers are not locked in to any one activity at any time.

After each meal, the staff share the upcoming activity choices in an announcement style setting, which can be quite entertaining! We help the campers decide what to do and encourage them to try new things. And…in case you were wondering… choosing “nothing” is not an option!​

Land Sports Activities

Land Sports at Echo Hill Camp (EHC) provide a diverse range of activities that teach skills, encourage play, and promote teamwork and sportsmanship. Whether campers are new to a sport or seasoned players, our Landsports Staff ensure a fun and supportive environment. Activities include Ultimate Frisbee, Basketball, Soccer, Gaga, Lacrosse, Volleyball, Kickball, Badminton, Bucket Golf, Wiffle Ball, Tennis, and Ten Ball (a mix of Tennis and Softball!). Campers develop confidence and friendships through structured games, skill-building sessions, and free play. With options for all interests, land sports at EHC inspire campers to stay active, try new things, and have fun!

Waterfront Activities

Our Waterfront Activities provide endless opportunities for fun and skill-building on the beautiful Chesapeake Bay. Campers can enjoy thrilling experiences like waterskiing, wakeboarding, kneeboarding, and tubing, as well as more tranquil activities such as sailing, kayaking, and swimming. With the guidance of our experienced staff, campers of all skill levels can safely explore and gain confidence in the water while creating unforgettable memories. Whether it’s learning to steer a sailboat or catching their first fish, every moment at the waterfront is filled with adventure and discovery.

Art Activities

Creativity, innovation, and self-expression are the main objectives of Echo Hill’s arts program. Through a variety of media, campers are able to strengthen existing skills and explore new ones with qualified instructors. Our talented art staff encourage campers to explore their skills in both the visual and performing arts. The art department is run by our Art Director and is supported by trained staff who are passionate about teaching art to children. At Echo Hill, campers develop their sense of originality and self expression through fine arts, as well as performing arts. Camper's can choose from: Arts & crafts, music, performing arts, dance, and pretty much any creative avenue one can imagine!

Echo Hill Dining

We pride ourselves not only on the delicious cuisine that our chef Miss Cheryl cooks, but also on the fun, energetic atmosphere that surround every meal. Meals are served in ‘The Whip’ which is a vintage carnival ride that has been converted into a 200 person capacity screened-in dining hall. Where most camps eat indoors, this unique structure allows campers to spend 100% of their time outdoors. Certainly a defining quality to the Echo Hill experience. 

Campers and counselors are assigned to a table and sit at the same table for every meal for two weeks. The table assignments mix campers of various ages and different genders to allow kids to meet other children as well as staff members they may not otherwise have spent time with. This consistency also provides our staff a chance to check in with every child 3 times a day. While our staff serves the food, each day a camper at the table is assigned to be “biddie” and is responsible for getting the food for the table and also clean up the table after the meal with help from our staff. 

Family Style Dining

Every meal consists of an entrée and 2-3 side dishes which vary every day.  During breakfast, in addition to the entrée and sides, there’s a cereal and yogurt bar which transitions into a salad bar during lunch and dinner.

Twice a week, campers enjoy a cookout dinner of hotdogs, hamburgers, and sausages among other goodies!

Vegetarian Options

​Our vegetarian campers and counselors shouldn’t fret! The chefs at Echo Hill cook up  a delicious and nutritious vegetarian option at every meal.

​There is also a full and hearty salad bar during lunch and dinner.

Special Feasts

Feasts typically happen once every two weeks and can include special options such as Maryland crabs, steak, or fried chicken accompanied with special desserts such as fruit salad or cherry cobbler.

Feasts are served outside and give campers an opportunity to share a meal with their friends.

Sunsets On The Bay

Echo Hill Camp is beautifully perched on a bluff that slopes gently down to a long, sandy beach along Maryland’s Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay. From this vantage point, campers are treated to some of the most breathtaking sunsets in the world, brilliant skies that fade from gold to deep purple over the open bay.

Our westward-facing shoreline offers an ever-changing evening show, where the water and sky meet in glowing color. These sunsets have a way of stopping everyone in their tracks, inviting campers to pause, reflect on their day, and appreciate the beauty and friendship that fill each summer at Echo Hill.

Rustic Living

Life at Echo Hill is a comfortable rustic. With warm nights and warm days, campers enjoy all facets of life at camp in the great outdoors.

​Campers are free to dress as they like all day, and if you prefer to not wear shoes or flip flops…then barefoot it is.

Big Marsh

The swamp is widely agreed upon to be one of the most beautiful places on camp. We have  two very different areas of the swamp that we use daily for activities: 

Swamp Canoeing “Scanoe”:

This area of the swamp is a favorite for nature lovers. Scanoeing on the canals beneath the flowering plants and across the lily pads gives one the feeling of being in a rainforest. Campers walk across the swamp on a wooden boardwalk that was built by the Maryland Corps of Engineers. At the end of the boardwalk they will find 3 canoes to safely navigate and explore the 172 acres of canals and marshes. 

Swamp Mucking:

Closer to the beach we have the section of our swamp for our campers that like to get deep in the muck, and get VERY wet and muddy! This activity is known as Swamp Mucking! The campers walk through the mucky and muddy waters which climax in cannonball jumps at the mother muck mud pit. This Swamp Mucking area is a testament to the raucous and youthful spirit our camp harbors summer after summer.
